LinkedIn names Daniel Shapero as its new CEO
In a leadership change aimed at steering the platform through an AI-led shift in the workplace, Microsoft is elevating its longtime executive Dan Shapero to be the new CEO of its LinkedIn division, effective immediately. Dan has led sales, marketing, and product across LinkedIn. He has been with LinkedIn since 2008, when he joined as a general manager for the LinkedIn Research Network. His elevation marks a continuation of internal leadership at the Microsoft-owned company.
Dan will succeed Ryan Roslansky, who has run the subsidiary since 2020 and last year took on additional responsibility in Microsoft’s Office productivity group.
Roslansky will retain his position as executive vice president at Microsoft. He came to LinkedIn from Glam Media in 2009 to be product chief, and six years ago he took over the group from Jeff Weiner. Under Roslansky, membership has grown to 1.3 billion from about 700 million.
The move comes as LinkedIn seeks to strengthen its position at the centre of an evolving, AI-driven professional landscape. The platform has more than 1.3 billion members globally and contributed 6.3% of Microsoft’s annual revenue in 2025, underlining its strategic importance within the group.
Microsoft has also been busy adding artificial intelligence features across its Office products and in LinkedIn, while also spending heavily on data center infrastructure to provide AI computing power to cloud clients.
