Delhi Police's Cyber Cell have arrested a 24-year-old man named Hakimuddin from Rajasthan's Bharatpur district in an 'extortion racket' for allegedly posing as a woman on social media and coercing money from doctors, retired police officers and teachers.
The police said the accused would either trap the victims in vulgar chats or were lured into obscene video calls which were recorded. He then threatened the victims with the recorded vulgar video chats and to make them public if they did not pay the money demanded.
The accused managed to extort a hefty amount worth Rs 1.9 lakh from one of the victims. Meanwhile, nine more complaints have been registered against him in this case referred to as the 'sextortion racket.'
The cops examined the social media account of the accused who, along with his three accomplices were later arrested. A thorough investigation revealed that the accused was earlier booked for cheating by Special Cell.
KPS Malhotra, DCP (Cyber Cell), said, “We analysed the phone numbers used for calling the complainant. They were issued from Assam but were being used in Bharatpur. We also traced the bank transactions and identified the money trail.”
