Micron Technology and The Akshaya Patra Foundation to feed mid-day meals to 5,000 children
2019-10-10The Micron Foundation, the non-profit arm of Micron Technology, is pleased to announce its partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide wholesome mid-day meals to children in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, India. Micron will be contributing $100,000 towards Akshaya Patra’s endeavour to serve hot, nutritious and hygienic meals to 5,000 children in Government and Government-aided schools in these locations.
Akshaya Patra serves as the implementing partner for the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Scheme, the Government of India’s flagship initiative to improve the health of children and bring them closer to the classroom. The $100,000 contribution from the Micron Foundation will be used for the implementation of the meal programme. In providing nutritious meals to children every school day, the programme seeks to improve enrollment, attendance and retention in schools, enhance the health and energy levels of children, and improve socialization among them.
Vandana Tilak, Chief Executive Officer of The Akshaya Patra Foundation USA, said, “We are immensely grateful to the Micron Foundation for their support to our initiative. This partnership will help us reach 5,000 children with freshly cooked, nutritious mid-day meals every day. Such partnerships invigorate us by adding to the sustainability and impact of our endeavour.”
“At Micron, we seek opportunities to inspire learning and to enrich the communities where we live and work by supporting basic human needs,” said Dee Mooney, Executive Director of the Micron Foundation. “By partnering with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, we are helping to serve one of the most basic needs of food, with the hope that a nutritious meal every day will give these students the energy and focus they need to succeed in school.”
