Breaking News
Microsoft is expanding the capabilities of its Copilot ecosystem with the integration of GPT-5.5, aiming to deliver more advanced reasoning and execution across its AI-powered tools. The update, highlighted by CEO Satya Nadella, brings improvements to platforms including GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and Azure AI Foundry.
The latest model upgrade is designed to enhance how Copilot handles complex workflows, enabling it to process multi-step tasks with greater accuracy and fewer user prompts. By strengthening reasoning capabilities, GPT-5.5 allows users to move from idea to execution more efficiently across development, productivity, and enterprise use cases.
Stronger Reasoning and Task Execution
According to Microsoft, GPT-5.5 improves the system’s ability to understand user intent and deliver more complete outputs in a single attempt. This reduces the need for repeated inputs and corrections, making interactions smoother and more productive.
In practical terms, the model supports a wide range of applications—from writing and debugging code to generating documents and analysing business data. Within Microsoft 365 Copilot, the integration enables more contextual insights by leveraging organisational data, helping users create reports, presentations, and spreadsheets with greater precision.
Multi-Model Approach Enhances Reliability
A key aspect of the update is Microsoft’s focus on multi-model workflows. In GitHub Copilot, developers can switch between different AI models depending on the task. Lightweight models can assist with initial exploration, while more advanced models handle planning and decision-making. GPT-5.5 then executes these plans into working outputs, such as functional code.
The system also supports collaborative model interactions, where one AI model can evaluate or refine the output of another. This layered approach improves reliability and helps address complex scenarios that require iterative reasoning.
Meanwhile, Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry provide tools for building custom AI agents that operate across enterprise workflows, combining multiple models within a unified framework.
The rollout of GPT-5.5 marks a broader shift in Microsoft’s AI strategy, positioning Copilot as a more capable, end-to-end assistant that not only supports users but increasingly completes tasks across coding, business operations, and productivity environments.
