Microsoft Teams is preparing to introduce new features including threaded conversations and a redesigned interface that integrates chats and channels. It’s a leading platform for collaboration and communication used by individuals and organizations around the globe.
The threaded conversations, as per reports, are anticipated to be available by mid-2025, while the integrated view of channels and chats will enter public preview next month. Jeff Teper, president of Microsoft’s collaborative apps and platforms, emphasized that this redesign is intended to "streamline your digital workspace" by bringing chats, teams, and channels together within the Chat feature, facilitating smoother workflows and quicker access to discussions.
With this update, users will no longer need to navigate through separate areas to access messages from personal or group chats. Microsoft is also working on a custom section feature, which will allow users to categorize conversations and projects effectively. In a move similar to WhatsApp, the platform will introduce a favourites section where all pinned chats and channels can be easily accessed.
Additional enhancements will allow users to opt for message previews, view all channels in a single list, and see timestamps for messages. An @mentions view will also be incorporated, enabling users to quickly locate conversations in which they have been mentioned. These features will be available in both desktop and mobile versions of Teams during the public preview next month, with rollout for Android and iOS users expected to follow later.
Earlier in August, Microsoft revealed plans to unify the Teams app, allowing users to access their education, personal, and work accounts seamlessly without requiring separate app installations.
