Microsoft has launched its first cloud PC device, the Windows 365 Link, a compact and budget-friendly solution tailored for corporate environments. Similar in size to Apple’s recently launched M4 Mac Mini, the Windows 365 Link focuses on cloud-based functionality rather than local computing power.
Unlike traditional PCs, the Windows 365 Link relies entirely on cloud connectivity to access a virtual Windows desktop hosted on remote servers. Microsoft positions this device as an alternative for businesses looking to minimize hardware costs and streamline operations by leveraging cloud infrastructure.
The Windows 365 Link, housed in a sleek black casing, comes equipped with multiple ports, including USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet, and wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. While its internal specifications are not fully disclosed, reports suggest it may include 8GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and an Intel processor. However, since the device relies on cloud computing, its hardware serves mainly as a gateway for accessing virtual machines.
The device boots up in seconds, resumes instantly from sleep, and includes dedicated chips to optimize video calls on platforms like Microsoft Teams and Cisco Webex. It also forms part of Microsoft’s Copilot Plus lineup, which integrates AI tools to enhance productivity.
Unlike Apple’s M4 Mac Mini, which is a standalone computer with robust local capabilities, the Windows 365 Link is designed exclusively for cloud use. It runs a minimal operating system optimized for securely connecting users to their cloud PCs. This design ensures enhanced security, leveraging Microsoft’s expertise in protecting Windows and Xbox systems against cyber threats.
The Windows 365 Link will be available next year with a retail price of $349. To use the device, customers must also subscribe to a Windows 365 plan, starting at $28 per month.
While Apple’s M4 Mac Mini offers superior hardware at a slightly higher cost (starting at $599), the Windows 365 Link targets businesses prioritizing cost efficiency and the flexibility of cloud-based computing.
With this launch, Microsoft reinforces its vision of a future centered on cloud-powered solutions, catering to organizations seeking streamlined, secure, and scalable technology.
