Breaking News
Mozilla is preparing to introduce a series of new features to its Firefox browser, aimed at enhancing user privacy, control and overall browsing experience. The upcoming update will bring a built-in VPN, artificial intelligence-powered tools, revamped settings and a refreshed design interface.
The company said these improvements are designed to simplify everyday browsing while giving users more transparency and control over their online activity. Notably, the VPN service, which was previously offered as a standalone paid feature, will now be integrated directly into the browser.
Built-in VPN and Privacy Enhancements
A key highlight of the update is the introduction of a free built-in VPN. This feature is intended to improve user privacy by routing internet traffic through secure servers, helping conceal a user’s IP address and browsing location.
The integrated VPN will be available without requiring additional downloads. In select regions such as the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, users are expected to receive up to 50GB of data per month. The rollout is expected to begin with Firefox version 149.
AI Tools, New Features and Interface Update
Firefox is also set to introduce AI-powered tools under a feature called “Smart Window.” This will allow users to access quick summaries, definitions and product comparisons directly within a webpage, reducing the need to switch tabs. The feature will be optional and initially accessible through a waitlist.
In addition, new productivity tools such as Split View will enable users to view two webpages side by side, while Tab Notes will allow them to add notes within browser tabs for better organisation.
The browser’s Settings section is also being redesigned with improved navigation and search functionality, making it easier for users to customise their experience. These changes will first appear in the Firefox Nightly version.
Alongside functional upgrades, Mozilla is introducing a visual refresh across the browser, including updated icons, menus and themes. A new mascot named “Kit” will also be part of the updated interface, aimed at creating a more engaging and user-friendly experience.
