Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) that provides telecom services under the brand MTS has announced its entry into the home Wi-Fi segment with the launch of Homespot Instant Wi-Fi solution. This launch marks a strategic shift in focus for MTS from being primarily a dongle-driven Data Company to a Wi-Fi solutions provider. The specially designed Homespot Instant Wi-Fi solution comes with an MBlaze Ultra dongle which works with a simple plug and play mechanism and can provide high-speed broadband access to five users simultaneously, including smartphone customers. With an exciting entry price and a range of monthly tariff plans to choose from, the company is pegging Homespot Instant Wi-Fi solution as the Common Man’s Wi-Fi.
While Internet usage in the country is booming, only 3 per cent of the country’s population has access to internet at home, according to the survey done by Gallup in 2011. This presents a huge opportunity for telecom operators to target the untapped home segment, especially in the tier-II and tier-III cities, where smartphones are gaining popularity. MTS India is all set to target this market opportunity with the launch of Homespot Instant Wi-Fi.
According to Leonid Musatov, Chief Marketing & Brand Officer, MTS India, “MTS is traditionally known as a data dongle provider in the Indian market. The plan is to now shift focus and be recognized as a world-class Wi-Fi solutions provider. With the Homespot Instant Wi-Fi solution, we have a fantastic product to address the internet needs of multiple users, including smartphone customers at home with a single, easy-to-use device.” Leonid further added, “The launch of Homespot Instant Wi-Fi solution is being supported by integrated communication campaign featuring a TVC that will see the return of MTS Internet Baby in an all-new avatar. The launch of this campaign will coincide with the upcoming cricket world cup”
The product is being targeted at people in the age group of 16–35 years with small families with higher focus on the tier-II and tier-III cities. The product is specially designed for families who consume internet on multiple devices, including smartphones with different internet connections when at home.
