The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature that will allow residents to add or update their email ID directly through the Aadhaar App, removing the need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The service became available from July 1, 2026, and is being offered free of cost for six months. This will make it more convenient for users to keep their Aadhaar records up to date.
Until now, anyone who wanted to add or update their email ID linked to Aadhaar had to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.
However, with the latest update, this process can now be completed digitally through the official Aadhaar App. The move is aimed at making Aadhaar services more accessible while reducing the need for physical visits to service centres.
To add to this, UIDAI has also waived the usual Rs 75 fee for updating an email ID through the Aadhaar App. The waiver is valid from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. During this period, users can update or add their email address without paying any charges, provided they use the official Aadhaar App.
The new feature has received an encouraging response from users. According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, more than 2.5 lakh email updates were recorded within the first two days of the service going live.
