NCPEDP has announced the opening for filling of nomination for the fourth NCPEDP-MphasiS Universal Design Awards 2013.
The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), in association with AccessAbility and BarrierBreak, and supported by MphasiS, had introduced the NCPEDP-MphasiS Universal Design Awards three years back with an aim to spread awareness and popularize Universal Design. This award acknowledges the efforts of individuals and organizations doing exemplary work towards the cause of accessibility and thus ensuring a life of equality and dignity for people with disabilities.
These Awards are given away in three categories: People with disabilities; Working Professionals and Corporates or Organizations covering the fields such as Information and Communication Technology; Built Environment; Services; Aids and Appliances and Transport.
Some of the previous Awardees include Arvind Prabhoo, who runs an accessible cab service in Mumbai; Abhishek Syal, who distributes self-learning technologies, resources and assistive technology for free; Dipendra Manocha, who is fighting to make the right to read real for blind people; and IIM–Bangalore, the first IIM to have adopted a clear-cut strategy to become a truly disabled-friendly institute. Other notable awardees include Microsoft, Wipro, Lemon Tree Hotels, etc.
