NRAI planning to enter food delivery segment with ONDC
The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has held talks with officials from the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to facilitate restaurants joining the network for a pilot project.
Over the next couple of months, a mix of few large and smaller restaurants may join the network for a pilot on the interoperable e-commerce network after a requisite technology standardisation.
A member of NRAI said, “Today was an introductory meet where ONDC explained to us about their vision of how restaurants can integrate and benefit by joining the network.”
Under the ONDC system, restaurant network providers may focus only on aggregating restaurants. The restaurant network providers (RNPs) will then onboard such restaurants onto the ONDC network and manage them afterwards.
With multiple network partners offering their services on the open network with no pre-filters, it will help break away from current monopolisation of the online food delivery ecosystem. It is said that talks have been held with an executive of one of the top pizza chains in the country for the chain to join the ONDC as well.
A note prepared by ONDC on a potential collaboration with food outlets said: “With multiple NPs (network partners) offering their services on the open network with no pre filters, it will help break away from current monopolisation/cartelisation of the online food delivery ecosystem.”
