On April 16, Nvidia is all set to introduce its GeForce Now cloud gaming subscription service in India. Cloud gaming lets users stream PC games directly to their devices, enabling them to play high-end, resource-heavy games without powerful hardware or large storage capacity requirement.
GeForce Now is entering the India market as another major player, after Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming and JioCloudGaming, banking on strong demand for high-end gaming in the country. To run the games, Nvidia will power the service with RTX 5080 GPUs, with a maximum bitrate of 100 megabits per second, and supported by server infrastructure located in Mumbai.
Nvidia’s move comes at a time when rising GPU and memory prices are driving up costs for PC builders. As the maker of the hardware that many users are increasingly unable to afford, Nvidia is well positioned to offer access to one of the most demanding features of a high-end PC - playing AAA games through a rental model.
GeForce Now offers its users a small library of games for free. It also offers a larger catalogue if users have purchased those select games on storefronts like Steam, Epic Games and Xbox’s PC games store. This means users need to pay both a subscription fee and the cost of individual games they wish to play.
