Chennai-based Odyssey Technologies, a publicly listed company specializing in information security products and services, has introduced two groundbreaking software products aimed at combating digital fraud. Named xorkeesign Mail and xorkeesign Spot, these products address critical global cybersecurity challenges and have the potential to protect 200 million email users and over a billion smartphone users worldwide.
Tackling digital fraud and identity theft
In recent years, the term “Digital Arrest” has emerged, symbolizing the increasing threats of cyber fraud, including identity theft, ransomware, and digital extortion. Despite numerous security advisories and software updates, these cyber threats persist globally. Even in the United States, where authorities issue cautions about Toll Text and similar scams, an effective solution has remained elusive.
B. Robert Raja, Chairman and Managing Director of Odyssey Technologies, stated, “The persistence of these threats suggests that existing security measures do not address the root cause. At Odyssey, we identified this core issue as the asymmetry of digital identity—hackers know their victims, but victims remain unaware of their attackers. Our new products directly tackle this problem by enabling senders to authenticate their emails, SMS, and other messages, stripping cybercriminals of their anonymity and empowering users.”
Raja compared these innovations to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Just as vaccines ultimately neutralized the virus, our solutions act as a software vaccine against cyber threats,” he explained.
xorkeesign Mail: Securing email communication
xorkeesign Mail is a browser or email client extension that enables senders to digitally sign their emails and allows recipients to verify those signatures. To encourage widespread adoption, Odyssey is offering the verification functionality free of charge. The company believes that if users make it a practice to verify email signatures before taking action, they can significantly reduce the risk of phishing attacks and email fraud.
This development is particularly crucial as phishing attacks remain a primary method for cybercriminals to infiltrate organizations and steal sensitive data. By promoting a culture of verification, xorkeesign Mail could help create a safer email ecosystem.
xorkeesign Spot: A global first for SMS security
While email security protocols such as S/MIME exist, SMS and other messaging platforms have largely remained unprotected. xorkeesign Spot, a mobile application, changes this by allowing message senders to digitally sign their SMS and other short messages, making Odyssey the first company to introduce such protection.
Additionally, xorkeesign Spot facilitates identity verification during phone or video calls and even in face-to-face meetings. Unlike traditional forms of identity verification—such as ID cards, voice recognition, or video, which can be easily manipulated—xorkeesign Spot uses cryptographic methods that cannot be faked, even by artificial intelligence.
Enterprise-level security with AltaSigna
Odyssey has also enhanced its AltaSigna Enterprise software, allowing large organizations to distribute millions of digitally signed emails and SMS messages to their customers and stakeholders. As with xorkeesign Mail, the verification process for customers is completely free, encouraging widespread adoption.
To ensure accessibility and affordability, xorkeesign’s identity recognition system is based on digital certificates. These certificates can be directly issued or attested by existing certificate holders within an organization. This method enables even large enterprises to extend secure authentication to thousands of employees.
Organizations can also use xorkeesign Spot to attest specific attributes of their employees. For instance, a hospital can verify a doctor’s specialization, a law firm can authenticate a lawyer’s credentials, and a university can certify a researcher’s expertise. Users can selectively reveal or conceal their verified attributes as needed, making this solution particularly useful for social media platforms attempting to verify users' ages without compromising privacy.
A safer digital future
Odyssey Technologies aims to empower users against cyber fraud by ensuring secure communication across email and messaging platforms. With xorkeesign Mail and xorkeesign Spot, the company expects to provide robust protection for millions of email and mobile users, potentially driving cybercrime rates down significantly.
As digital scams continue to rise, solutions like these could redefine cybersecurity standards, offering a proactive approach to digital identity protection. If widely adopted, these tools could pave the way for a future where online scams and phishing attacks become obsolete.
