Non-resident Indians now able to cast vote to take a decision within a week to give voting rights to NRIs. The EC has launched the Overseas Indian Voters portalfor on-line registration.
As the NRIs staying out of India for the long time. They may not be having the Voters IDs: on this case their passport would be sufficient. There are more than 1 crore NRIs are living across the world and only 24,348 foreign voters are registered with EC on record. The move will bring benefit to the states where the large population of NRIs living abroad.
Now, with this announcement 1 crore NRI would get the opportunity to elect their leader through postal ballot.
