Samsung Electronics has announced that the sales of the Samsung Star have surpassed 30 million units. The Samsung Star reached this milestone faster than any other devices in Samsung's history, launched in May 2009.
"Samsung Star is our fastest-selling touchscreen mobile in the mid-segment touch mobile phones. Based on the success of our touchscreen mobile phones like Samsung Star, Corby series and Samsung Champ, we expect our touchscreen contribution to be over 20% of our total mobile phone volumes this year," states Ranjit Yadav, Country Head, Samsung Mobile and IT. Samsung Star NXT is available in the Indian market priced at Rs.7,350/-.
"We are very pleased with the phenomenal success of the Samsung Star," said YH Lee, Senior Vice-President of Marketing for the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. "Samsung is aiming to take the lead in the global full touchscreen mobile and dominate the market with our diverse product lineup and customized marketing approach."
The Star has consistently sold well since its release, hitting the 10 million sales mark after only six months and 20 million in just one year. Across Europe, where it first became available, the Star has sold 15 million units; it achieved similar success in Latin America (5 million units), Russia (3 million units) and China (1 million units). Notably, the Samsung Star has also topped bestseller phone lists in Germany and Austria.
