The conference was inaugurated by Shri K. T. Rama Rao, Minister of IT & Panchayati Raj, Government of Telangana. In his inaugural speech, Shri Rama Rao said, “I feel India, Telangana and Hyderabad need to encourage more and more product-based innovations. India has been recognized and respected all around the world for its programming skills, coding skills and so on, but we are not content with that and we should not be. We are not just the backoffice function and have to move up the value chain. In a world where India is seen as a backoffice solution provider, Pegasystems India has reposed its faith in the right place – Innovation, Product Development, Research & Development, etc. We need to be known not just for our programming skills but also for our entrepreneurial capabilities. We have launched several initiatives, one of which is very ambitious and we have been talking to several companies globally – it’s called T Hub – the Technology Hub which will be the incubator of incubators. This initiative will be incubating more than 5,000 companies and will nurture innovation.”
Pegasystems works with large companies because those organizations have complexities in becoming agile. Because of the digital disruptions, there is a tremendous need for them to enhance their entire customer experience and tailor them to the omni-channel world. So Pega’s strategy is to stay within the Fortune 500/1000 in sectors such as Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, Healthcare; Public Sector, Life sciences and telecom.
Suman Reddy, Managing Director, Pegasystems, affirms, “By virtue of being in the industry for 30 years, we have been seen as the thought leaders by our customers and partners. 30 years back, we were a business rules automation and software solutions provider where we worked with the largest banks to help them automate their processes. Today, our partners trust us to the extent that they are asking us to bring in our innovations to deal with digital disruption. It is more of a mutual thing where we are advising them on the latest changes in the technology. We are working with some of the large companies with their top management and showcasing on how our software can help them enhance their customer experience.
He also said, “Our ecosystem is going through such a rapid growth that we are now figuring out ways to expand this ecosystem as rapidly as we can. With the current estimate of around 15,000 people, we believe there is a severe shortage of skilled people. The demand is much higher than what we currently have. We believe that in the next 3–5 years, if the predictions come true, we expect this 15,000 to go up to 50,000 people. So part of doing such a conference is to mass enable people. One of the challenges of software companies is that it is not about training people once but every time there are some innovations they need to be trained. It is important that we share best practices from all over the world and successful implementations from all our ecosystems so that they take back the learning. When they go back to work they have some real ideas on how to solve business problems.”

Mr. Suman Reddy
Managing Director, Pegasystems
Today, a satisfied customer starts off a conversation on mobile, picks it off seamlessly on an email and wants to end it on social media and expects the company to understand from which channel the customer came from. So what people are learning here in the next two days is how do you build such Omni-channel presence on a platform for companies using the digital Pega 7 platform.
When asked about the Prime Minister’s initiative on “Make in India” and Pega’s contribution, Suman ascertained, “We are already making in India from our perspective. It is a great initiative, Pega has realized that 7 years ago. I would support this initiative and spread the word both personally and professionally. When I meet executives across the world I do tell them that India has the capacity and capabilities to innovate. We are no longer a back office but we can make the entire architecture, innovate and help companies grow their businesses. This is exactly what Pega is doing. Our largest R&D centre is here in Hyderabad. We have close-to 1,000 people between Hyderabad and Bangalore and combined this is the largest R&D capacity of the whole company.”
