At the heart of Plane’s transformation is its unified product suite that combines project tracking, knowledge management, and AI-driven automation in a streamlined interface, reflecting the “Planes of Work” philosophy and allowing teams to customize workflows without vendor lock-in or extra costs
Plane, a widely used open-source project management tool, has unveiled a major rebranding along with the launch of an AI-powered product suite, marking a shift from a developer-centric app to a versatile platform for diverse modern businesses.
Originally launched as a simple, self-hosted solution, Plane has rapidly evolved into a comprehensive work operating system adopted by Fortune 500 companies, government agencies across 20+ countries, private defense contractors, and fast-growing firms in sectors such as AI, healthcare, manufacturing, and finance.
Vamsi Kurama, Founder of Plane, emphasized the company’s vision of making project management “easy, flexible, and clear.” The rebranding introduces a new logo and reflects Plane’s commitment to combining simplicity with the performance and security demanded by larger organizations.
Central to this transformation is Plane’s unified product suite, which integrates project tracking, knowledge management, and AI-driven automation into a streamlined interface. Built around the philosophy called “Planes of Work,” the platform mirrors how real teams function, allowing users to customize workflows by selecting only needed features—thereby avoiding unnecessary expenses and vendor lock-in common with traditional tools.
Introducing Plane Intelligence (Pi)
A standout addition is Plane Intelligence (Pi), a suite of AI capabilities currently in beta with select partners. Pi enables teams to access unstructured data, interact with project information through AI models like ChatGPT and Claude, and automate repetitive tasks, accelerating decision-making and empowering users.
While the open-source Community Edition remains a cornerstone of Plane’s identity—boasting over 37,000 GitHub stars—the company reports growing enterprise adoption. Self-hosted and air-gapped versions offer full feature parity with the cloud product and cater to regulated industries needing enhanced control and compliance, including SAML, RBAC, and audit logs.
Kurama concluded, “We didn’t just change our logo; we rebuilt Plane to meet the needs of modern work.” The updated platform is now available for cloud and self-hosted users, with Plane Intelligence accessible in beta for Business and Enterprise customers upon request.
As AI-assisted collaboration becomes a standard, Plane aims to be the preferred adaptable, intelligent work platform for teams worldwide.
