In a surprise development, A Twitter account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal website was hacked early Thursday with a series of cryptic tweets being posted on the account by a group claiming to be John Wick.
As it has hacked and a series of tweets asking its followers to donate to a relief fund through cryptocurrency. As news got circulated across the industry and question arises on how far the internet and social media is secure?
We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted," a Twitter spokeswoman said in an emailed statement. However, the PM's account, which has 61.8 million followers, was not affected. The account reportedly sent out tweets asking its followers to donate to the PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency.
Twitter confirms account of PM Narendra Modi's personal website hacked, secured now.The microblogging site( Twitter) said it was aware of the activity with the website account of PM Modi and added that it has taken steps to secure it.
PM Modi’s office has not yet commented about the tweets posted on the account @narendramodi_in.
The account, with more than 2.5 million followers, is the official Twitter handle for Modi’s personal website and the Narendra Modi mobile application. Meanwhile, PM Modi’s personal Twitter account, which was not hit by the breach, has over 61 million followers.
The tweets, which have now been removed, asked followers to donate to the PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency. It seems the hackers had broken into the Twitter accounts of technology giants, politicians, celebrities and major firms in what had been an apparent Bitcoin scam.
