The Professional Fighters League (PFL), the fastest growing and most innovative sports league in the world, today announced it has reached a multi-year agreement with China Sports Media to broadcast live fight coverage on Douyin, the country’s leading short-form video platform. The deal will give users in China access to all PFL Regular Season and PFL Europe events.
Under the agreement, CSM will work with social media personalities and content creators, such as Guo Chendong, the founder of Chinese MMA organization Glory of Heroes, to help the league reach new audiences and young fans. Douyin currently sees more than 500 million daily active users.
“There is a massive opportunity to grow the sport of MMA in Asia and our partnership with China Sports Media will allow us to strengthen our presence and build digital bridges throughout the country through the popular Douyin platform,” said PFL SVP, International James Frewin.
“We are thrilled with this partnership with the Professional Fighters League, it’s a great step to expand our portfolio of combat sports,” said Eric Geng, Managing Director of Rights at CSM. “This cooperation will allow PFL to broaden the fanbase and grow the reach and engagement within the younger demographics in the market.”
China Sports Media is a major agency in media rights distribution in China. It has previously handled properties including domestic and international rights for the Chinese Super League, international rights for Chinese national football team matches, and rights in China for the Bundesliga, LaLiga and Serie A.
PFL is the #1 fastest growing company in MMA and the #2 MMA company on a worldwide basis. PFL is the only company in MMA with the sports-season format, where individual fighters compete in sports-season “win and advance” meritocracy like all other major sports. The PFL fighter roster is global and world-class, with fighters from over 20 countries and 25% independently ranked in the top 25. PFL leads in technology and innovation, with its proprietary PFL SmartCage powering real-time betting and next-gen viewing experience. PFL is aired primetime live in the U.S. on ESPN and ESPN+ and in 140 countries via 25 leading broadcast and streaming partners.
