Rajiv Gauba to be the next Home Secretary
2017-07-03Union urban development secretary Rajiv Gauba will be the next home secretary of the country. The appointments committee of the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday cleared his appointment.
Gauba, a 1982-batch Jharkhand cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, will take over on August 30 when the current home secretary, Rajiv Mehrishi, superannuates after a fixed tenure of two years.
The order said till then Gauba will work as officer on special duty in the home ministry.
This will be the second recent stint of Gauba in the home ministry. In his earlier stint as the additional secretary, Gauba looked after the Left Wing Extremism division of the ministry. Following that, Gauba was appointed as the chief secretary in his parent cadre of Jharkhand.
