In a groundbreaking move toward enhancing seamless communication, leading telecom providers Reliance Jio, Airtel, and BSNL have introduced a new feature that allows users to make calls using other available networks in case their primary SIM loses signal. This innovative approach aims to eliminate the frustration of being stranded without connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted calls and offering a lifeline in areas with poor network coverage.
The Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), formerly known as the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) under the Indian Telegraph Act of 1885, is a government initiative aimed at improving telecom services in India. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the launch of the Inter-Circle Roaming (ICR) facility, emphasizing its importance. He said, "This is a key milestone, with BSNL, Airtel, and Reliance collaborating to use each other’s infrastructure at DBN-funded sites. With nearly 27,836 such locations, we’re not only ensuring better connectivity but also giving customers the freedom to choose their network provider across the country."
A Revolutionary Step Toward Uninterrupted Communication
The new feature allowing calls across networks is more than just a convenience—it’s a major step toward closing connectivity gaps in India. With cross-network calling, Reliance Jio, Airtel, and BSNL ensure users stay connected without worrying about signal loss. This service is especially helpful for professionals, students, and travelers who depend on their mobile devices for uninterrupted communication.

This feature leverages advanced technology to facilitate network-free calling, enabling users to automatically switch to another network when their home network is unavailable. This capability addresses one of the most significant pain points for mobile users—dropped calls—especially in rural or remote locations. Whether it's staying connected during emergencies or simply ensuring day-to-day communication flows smoothly, this initiative underscores the commitment of Indian telecom operators to prioritize customer experience.
This initiative is also expected to boost competition among telecom providers, encouraging innovation and better service quality. By making dropped calls a thing of the past, it marks a significant move toward a stronger communication network. Over time, such collaborative efforts are likely to lead to even more advancements, ensuring reliable and seamless connectivity for everyone in India.
