Samsung has broken free from Google Android platform and introduced smartphone based on Tizen, the company's own operating system. It is to reduce reliance on the popular operating platform Android. The new smartphone will be unveiled tomorrow at the Tizen Developer Conference in San Francisco.
The device comes with a 4.8 inch high-definition display and offers features such as fingerprint sensor.
Samsung Z will be launched first in the Russian market in Q3 of this year before reaching other markets. The Samsung executive said that, in April, he thinks, Tizen would have to account for up to 15% of Samsung's total smartphone shipments to be considered a success.
The device maker has worked with Intel to develop this Linux-based operating platform Tizan. Samsung Gear 2 smart watch, launched in February, was based on the same platform, but Samsung Z is the first handset to run on this platform.
