The semiconductor industry is a crucial pillar of Taiwan's economy, playing a central role in its economic growth and technological advancements. As one of the five major focus industries of the Taiwanese government, it contributes significantly to the country's GDP and global trade. Taiwan is home to some of the world's largest semiconductor manufacturers, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which is a global leader in producing cutting-edge chips.
The government's focus on the semiconductor sector is not only for short-term economic benefits but also as a foundation for future technological innovation and global competitiveness. This sector is critical for a range of industries, from electronics and automotive to telecommunications and defense.Taiwan's success in semiconductors has allowed it to maintain a competitive edge in global supply chains, particularly in high-demand areas like 5G technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Moreover, the government's investment in research and development (R&D) and support for public-private collaborations has further strengthened Taiwan’s position as a global hub for semiconductors. This has made the country indispensable in the global semiconductor supply chain, helping drive innovation not only in Taiwan but also for major global technology industries.
SEMICON Taiwan 2024, one of the most influential semiconductor exhibitions globally, is making a grand debut across two main venues. This year's event continues to spotlight essential semiconductor topics like advanced processes, equipment and materials, heterogeneous integration, compound semiconductors, smart manufacturing, green manufacturing, cybersecurity, and talent development.
The highly anticipated CEO Summit made a significant debut during a major exhibition, bringing together some of the biggest names in the global semiconductor supply chain, such as TSMC, Applied Materials, Google, imec, Marvell, Microsoft, Samsung Electronics, and SK hynix. These industry leaders discussed pivotal industry dynamics, market innovations, and cutting-edge semiconductor technologies.
In addition to these core areas, new exhibits such as the Smart Mobility Innovation Zone, AI Technology Zone, and Silicon Photonics Pavilion have been introduced, showcasing the extensive applications of semiconductors in powering AI technologies and other innovations. These new areas are designed to help attendees explore the latest trends in the semiconductor industry, including how these technologies are revolutionizing fields like AI, smart mobility, and photonics. The discussions aimed to highlight how these technologies will shape the future of the semiconductor industry and continue driving global innovation and competitiveness
Leading companies are also showcasing their latest technological advancements, highlighting the event's role in connecting industry leaders and innovators, sharing insights, and driving the future of semiconductor technologies.
Given Taiwan's leadership in advanced packaging technologies within the global semiconductor supply chain, this year's SEMICON Taiwan will also introduce the 3D IC/CoWoS for AI Summit and the Fan-Out Panel-Level Packaging (FOPLP) Innovation Forum for the first time. These sessions, led by industry giants TSMC and ASE, will cover the latest breakthroughs and trends in semiconductor packaging. The focus will be on how these technologies can support AI and high-performance computing applications. These forums are expected to attract over 2,500 industry professionals, underscoring their significance in shaping the future of semiconductor manufacturing.
