Shalini Kapoor, who is currently the Chief Technologist for Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region, is set to quit the global cloud computing giant. She will be joining People+ai, a Bengaluru-based initiative backed by Nandan Nilekani.
Kapoor has an illustrious career in the technology sector, with notable contributions in artificial intelligence and cloud computing. She holds 15 patents and has authored four IEEE papers, reflecting her deep expertise in innovation and research.
Beyond her corporate role, Shalini has been actively involved in shaping technological policies and strategies, serving as the co-chair of the technology committee at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Additionally, she is a member of the artificial intelligence advisory board at the World Economic Forum, further underscoring her thought leadership in emerging technologies.
Her departure marks the third significant leadership transition in AWS’s APJ division within the past two years. Earlier, Puneet Chandok, former President of Commercial Business for India and South Asia, resigned on August 31, 2023, to join Microsoft India.
Following his exit, Vaishali Kasture, who had been overseeing enterprise, mid-market, and global businesses in India and South Asia, stepped in as the interim leader. These leadership shifts come at a critical juncture as AWS amplifies its focus on artificial intelligence, reinforcing its commitment to driving innovation and sustaining its market leadership in the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
