Small and medium businesses (SMBs) today form a big chunk of the Indian enterprise class and its contribution to the Indian GDP is estimated to be 60 per cent. But this growth story does not end here. As more and more SMBs are seen subscribing to the Internet at a rapid pace, online and PC security continues to remain as the biggest concern and fear to them. Studies indicate that data loss is another issue that poses a perennial threat to the SMBs.
MSE
Microsoft has sought to come to their rescue as its trusted aide by announcing the availability of its new anti-virus solution, the Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). It is a comprehensive and simple to use solution that provides real-time protection from viruses, spyware and other malicious threats and is specifically designed for the cost- sensitive Indian SMBs. It is available as a no-cost download for Windows XP SP2 and higher, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The solution can be used in the SMB space with up to 10 PCs. The solution was earlier launched in 2009 for the consumer segment and has recorded a huge success with over 30 million customers using it in around 74 different countries. It has also claimed to have been successful in detecting nearly 400 million threats.
"The Indian SMB segment is growing at a break-neck speed and is emerging as a key growth driver for the IT industry. For these businesses, managing IT security at a low cost is a key priority. We are excited to extend the benefits of MSE to this community. We see this as a win-win solution that is easy to get and easy to use and will add to our customer's overall success," explains Pankaj Ukey, Director - Windows Client, Consumer and Online Business, Microsoft India.
Lack of proper IT knowledge and awareness on the part of the SMBs is seen to be aggravating this problem further. Also, with a limited budget and infrastructure, SMBs choose to invest very less on IT. A recent study states that their spending on IT last quarter was only 30 per cent of India's total IT spending. The new solution from Microsoft addresses this concern and it is aimed at considerably saving on investment for the SMBs and focusses on their business growth.
Finally
In continuation of its efforts to safeguard the SMBs and ensuring the best security experience to them, Microsoft has globally partnered with HP to pre-install this offering on the HP Envy series of notebooks. This global partnership is expected to offer a solution to all the security needs of SMBs.
