Elon Musk’s Starlink, the satellite internet arm of SpaceX, has started hiring in India as it prepares to launch its long-awaited satellite broadband services in the country. The move signals renewed momentum after a prolonged regulatory pause and reflects Starlink’s intent to play a major role in bridging India’s digital connectivity gap.
According to the company’s job postings, Starlink is recruiting for key positions in government relations, operations, and business development, focusing on compliance, infrastructure rollout, and customer support. The hiring drive follows the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) granting approval for Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) services, a key step toward commercial deployment.
Starlink aims to provide high-speed internet through its low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, offering reliable connectivity in rural and remote regions underserved by traditional telecom networks. Once launched, it will compete with players like OneWeb (backed by Bharti Group) and Amazon’s Project Kuiper.
Industry experts say Starlink’s entry could transform India’s broadband landscape, enabling last-mile connectivity for villages and small enterprises. The rollout is expected to begin in phases once the company secures its spectrum allocation and operating license, likely later this year.
