The apex court flagged the phishing attack to law enforcement, initiating an investigation to identify the culprits and ensure they are brought to justice
The Supreme Court of India has sounded an alert about a phishing attack on its website, warning the public against fraudulent websites impersonating its official portal. These fake platforms, designed to steal personal and sensitive information, have raised fresh concerns over cybercrime in India and the need for better Indian judiciary cybersecurity.
In an official advisory, the Supreme Court registry disclosed that attackers are using fake URLs to trick users into providing confidential details. “The Registry strongly advises the public to refrain from sharing personal or financial information on these platforms,” the notice stated, adding that such data could be exploited for malicious activities.
The court clarified that its official domain is www.sci.gov.in and urged citizens to verify any URL before engaging with it. The registry further emphasized that the court never solicits personal or financial information from users, urging vigilance to avoid falling victim to online security threats.
Phishing, a cybercrime method, involves creating fake websites or emails that mimic legitimate entities to deceive people into sharing private information. Such scams often result in identity theft, financial fraud, and breaches of sensitive data.

The advisory also offered practical steps for victims of phishing attacks. Individuals are advised to change the passwords of their online accounts immediately and report unauthorized transactions to their banks or credit card companies.
This Supreme Court cyber attack serves as a stark reminder of the growing prevalence of cybercrime in India and the need for strengthened safeguards. It underscores the importance of public awareness, timely action, and proactive cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive judicial and personal data from digital threats.
As India’s digital ecosystem expands, institutions like the judiciary must remain vigilant against evolving cyber threats, setting a precedent for robust online security protocols.
