Swiggy Instamart and HPCL Offer On-Demand Doorstep LPG Gas Cylinder Delivery Within One hour
Ecommerce giant, Swiggy Instamart has collaborated with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to deliver LPG cylinders on-demand. The partnership has centred on the promise of LPG cylinder deliveries in 30–45 minutes. The pilot started in Bengaluru and later will expand to other urban centers.
The association marks the launch of HP Navya, a 5-kg and 10-kg composite LPG cylinder designed for a new generation of urban consumers—students, renters, young professionals, and small households—who often find it difficult to access conventional LPG connections.
Unlike the traditional red steel LPG cylinders commonly used in Indian homes, HP Navya is made from lightweight composite material, making it easier to carry. It is corrosion-resistant and features a transparent body that allows users to see the remaining gas level without any additional device. Its smaller size also makes it well suited for apartments, rented accommodations, and smaller kitchens.
The most important aspect is the purchasing model. Unlike standard domestic LPG cylinders, customers do not need a conventional LPG connection involving paperwork, address verification, or registration. Instead, first-time users complete a simple identity verification, purchase the cylinder, and subsequently order refills whenever required. During each refill, the empty cylinder is exchanged for a filled one.
Consumers can order either a 10-kg HP Navya composite LPG cylinder or a 5-kg metal LPG cylinder through Swiggy Instamart. The initial purchase is treated as the purchase of a new cylinder, while subsequent orders can be placed as refills by exchanging the empty HPCL cylinder during delivery.
Orders will be fulfilled through HPCL's network of authorised LPG distributors, with trained personnel responsible for last-mile delivery, cylinder exchange, and installation in compliance with prescribed safety and regulatory guidelines. First-time customers will be required to complete an identity verification process, with proof-of-delivery documentation forming part of the onboarding process.
The launch comes months after concerns over cooking gas supplies during the Iran conflict underscored the need for more resilient and diversified last-mile distribution networks for essential commodities.
India is the world's second-largest consumer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with the domestic cooking gas market largely served by the three state-owned oil marketing companies—Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
The partnership further broadens Swiggy Instamart's quick-commerce portfolio, which already includes groceries, fresh produce, electronics, personal care products, and a wide range of household essentials, while marking its entry into the household utility services segment.
