The AI PC is very much here: AMD CEO Lisa Su
2024-03-15Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), delivered a keynote at SXSW about the future of AI. In her address, Lisa discussed the future of AI and how she sees it evolving.
Lisa noted, "AI is the most important technology to come on the scene in the last 50 years."
She added, "Companies that learn how to leverage AI are going to win over companies that are not. AMD wants to be at the leading edge. We're using it in every aspect, to design better chips, build better software, and use it as a productivity tool."
While emphasizing the integration of AI into the next generation of PCs and the transformative impact that it will have, she said, "AI is the evolution in the PC game. It's the beginning of allowing us to become much more productive. The AI PC is very much here. You can go buy an AI PC today.”
Lisa commented that “it takes a village” and “no one company has all the answers” when it comes to reaching the true potential of AI.
Lisa Su was joined on stage by David Conley, Executive VFX Producer at Wētā FX, to discuss how AMD technology has powered the VFX studio’s creative process for its feature films.
Wētā FX is known for pushing the computational limits of scene rendering through their award-winning and incredibly dense, detailed environments in films such as Avatar: The Way of Water, and the upcoming “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”, as well as the Oscar award winning animated short film “War is Over! Music Inspired by John and Yoko”.
AMD has partnered with Wētā to provide EPYC CPUs that enable their artists and VFX teams to render scenes, more rapidly to full detail as well as live in interactive sessions rather than delayed on a render wall, vastly expanding the creative limits of Wētā’s highly talented teams.
