The potential of AI can be leveraged to achieve India’s GDP targets: Niti Aayog CEO

While Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant’s obsession with new-age technologies is a known fact, he is known to equally promote these technologies on various platforms.  Kant has been encouraging startups to leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other new-age technologies over social media platforms as well.

Citing that AI is the future of technology, Kant says that it has the potential to help India achieve its gross domestic product (GDP) targets, now that India has targeted an increment of GDP by $957 Bn by 2035.

“We have startups that ensure innovation, growth, jobs, and are helping turn India into the start-up capital of the world,” he says.

India is currently the fourth-largest auto industry in the world. However, it is plagued with problems like traffic congestion, pollution, and recently it has started to witness a sharp downfall. But according to Kant, with new innovations, there’s a huge opportunity in the auto space. With services such as shared mobility and electric vehicles, brought by Ola and Uber, the auto industry can deal with some of its problems.

Kant believes that future mobility must be shared and connected. The CEO of Niti Aayog also emphasises that future vehicles should come with zero-emissions.

“India needs to prioritise shared transportation and turn to sunrise industries that can help combat pollution, reduce congestion, and create jobs,” Kant adds.

Impressed with the revolutionary application of AI in multiple domains, the Chief Justice of India, SA Bobde, recently proposed to introduce an AI application that would help in better administration of justice delivery.

Supporting the application of AI in courtrooms, Kant said that the technology will assist judges in their routine functioning and might help in easing the existing blockages in the judiciary.

Furthermore, emphasising on the growth of the Indian start-up ecosystem, Kant said that India has gone digital across different sectors. “As a result, India has become hugely data-rich, even before it has become rich. This data richness of India has led to over 1,000 startups working in learning, artificial intelligence and they are doing the kind of disruption that the world has never seen before. Many of them are doing path-breaking work,” he adds.
