Toshiba debuts 3TB 2.5-inch HDD
2015-01-21Toshiba Corporation’s Semiconductor & Storage Products Company has announced the launch of a 3TB 2.5-inch hard disk drive (HDD). Utilizing perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, the “MQ03ABB300” has achieved 750GB per platter, using a total of 4 platters to achieve storage of 3TB. Suitable for external personal storage devices and space constrained use cases requiring high storage capacity, it is small in size but large in storage capability. Sample shipments will begin in May.
It will be distributed across 750 A-, B-, C- and D-class cities of India. This monumental task has been assigned to Rashi Peripherals.
"Rashi is excited to once again partner with Toshiba to deliver our customers with what is truly an innovative storage solution. As the market moves forward to two terabyte and the NIFT segment awaits a 3 terabyte storage, it is right time for Rashi and Toshiba to launch the new increment in the hard drive ecosystem,” said Rajesh Goenka, Vice-President – Sales & Marketing.
Polad Garda, Country Manager, Toshiba’s operations in India, said, "Toshiba being the innovator continues to push the envelope. It is the first hard drive that endorses a 3 terabyte in a miniscule 2.5 inches, a hard drive that is as small as a fist but punches the storage capacity, by delivering a whopping 3 terabyte, an industry first."
The “MQ03ABB300” offers the best in energy consumption efficiency in the 2.5-inch form-factor, with lower power consumption and 50-per cent larger capacity compared to Toshiba’s previous generation 4-platter 2TB “MQ01ABB200”. It is suitable for single and multi-drive HDD home and SMB storage enclosures by providing ample space for data storage. The power-efficient design also makes it a suitable solution for USB-connected external personal storage applications.
