Kannada actor Upendra and his wife, actress-politician Priyanka Upendra, were duped of ₹1.5 lakh in an online scam, leading to the arrest of a man from Bihar. The couple had reportedly placed an online order for furniture when they were contacted by a fraudster posing as a company representative.
The scammer convinced them to make an advance payment of ₹1.5 lakh through digital transactions. After receiving the money, the fraudster became untraceable, prompting the couple to file a complaint with Bengaluru police. Cybercrime officials tracked the transaction trail and identified the accused as a resident of Bihar. He was taken into custody and is being brought to Bengaluru for further investigation.
Police officials noted that the accused may be part of a larger cyber fraud network targeting high-profile individuals and online shoppers. The case has sparked renewed concern over rising digital payment frauds and the vulnerability of even well-known personalities.
Authorities have urged the public to verify seller credentials before making online payments and avoid sharing sensitive information over phone or unsecured platforms. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are working to recover the lost funds and identify any accomplices involved in the scheme.
