Voter-ID cards have gone digital
2021-01-26The Election Commission of India formally launched the e-EPIC (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card) program on January 25, the National Voter's Day.
e-EPIC is a non-editable secure portable document format (PDF) version of the EPIC and will have a secured QR code with image and demographics like serial number, part number, etc. E-EPIC can be downloaded on a mobile or a computer and can be digitally stored. This is in addition to physical IDs being issued for fresh registration. Voters who do not have their phone numbers linked will have to get it done to avail of the download feature and the new Voters will also get hard copies of their voter ID cards
The e-voter card will be available in the PDF format which cannot be edited, can be self-printed and laminated by the voter when required. With its formal launch on Monday, electors in poll-bound West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry can use e-voter card on polling days. Elections are due in these states and the union territory in April-May.
The Election Commission is celebrating 11th National Voters' Day (NVD) today and the theme this year is 'Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed'. President Ram Nath Kovind will be the Chief Guest at the national function being organised in New Delhi by ECI. The National Voters' Day is celebrated on 25 January every year since 2011, all across the country.
