In a chat with VARINDIA, Hatem Naguib, SVP& COO - Barracuda Networks discusses about the India market, its solutions, key verticals and how it creates value for its customers -
India has always been receptive when it comes to adoption of new technologies. The country may leave aside many countries when it comes to the number of technology users. Barracuda has already invested money in India and it sees the country as an opportunity.
“We have invested early in India andhave a strong engineering team in India. We have also built a global technology supportand contact centers here. We see that India is also at the forefront of many technology trends,be it the adoption of Office 365or any other technology.Public cloud adoption is very high, and a number of companies are actually cloud native in India which allows the country to be very attractive and a growing market for us in the future,” says Hatem Naguib.
Barracuda covers different security segments like email, web, application etc. All its solutions are software based and can be deployed in multiple form factors.
“We look at the entire threat landscape like email, web, applications, network and infrastructure capability and how we put the security capabilities on top of that. All of our technologies are actually software,and we deploy it at multiple form factors. You can buy an appliance form; can deploy it in public cloud, or as a virtual machine. As we have invested as a software first capability, you get fullfeature capabilities whether as a hardware appliance or as a cloud delivered as a service,” discusses Hatem.
For years Barracuda has been delivering high quality solutions that have cloud capability. Customers can backup both on premise and also on cloud. The company has also added facilities like archiving so that customers can maintain compliance and also protect information from cyber threat.
“We are one of the largest data protection providers in the world and have several thousand customers who use our backup solutions. Many companiesmake Barracuda as part of their solutions for backup, as part of adding any new site to their business. We have for years delivering high quality solutions that have cloud capability and those aredelivered globally for customers so that they can backup not just on premise but also have those services available oncloud, local to their environment. Then we have also included archiving capabilities for email to allow customers maintain compliance and to protect years of information from risk associated with cyber security attacks,” explains Hatem.
Create Value for Customers
Barracuda has interacted with a lot of customers and finds out the trends. Customers want to leverage cloud, different multiple environments and also want to digitize their interactions with customers. These trends have helped Barracuda drive their product strategy which inturn helped its customers protect themselves.
“We spentan enormous amount of time talking to thousands of customers and look to the trends which those customers are dealing with. Customers are looking at cloud, leveraging technologies acrossdifferent, multiple distributed environments and seeing how they can digitize their interactions with customers. All the three trends are driving our product strategies to help our customers protect themselves in the new digital transformation era. The two dominating areas that are affecting our customers are email collaboration; it is the lifeblood of how business is done worldwide and it has become a significant attack vector for many customers that need a specific set of tools and capabilities to protect. Secondis the use of cloud technology, be that for infrastructure, SaaS, for platform as a service has driven a huge amount of interest in our network and application security capabilities for the customers who are hybrid, cloud native or thinking of using cloud services in the future. These converge for many customers whose first taste of cloud is through Office 365 and we see huge adoption of it throughout the world. For us we build several solutions to help protect customers as they migrate to that cloud based email solutions,” elaborates Hatem.
Today security is a concern to every small and large company. In the beginning, only the regulatory industry used to care about it but now every company of any size is cautious about their security profile.
“It started off with mid market companies. Over the last several years we have seen large number of enterprises using Barracuda solutions. It crosses all vectors, from global fortune companies to small shops around the world. Initially, it used to be regulated industries that cared about security but now everybody cares about security. From pharmaceuticals, financial services to manufacturing companies, everybody now care about the security profile, so they can ensure that their technology is part of the overall security strategy,” concludes Hatem.
