Western Digital Black SN750 is an NVMe SSD available in capacities up to 2T, which delivers peak speeds of up to 3,470/3,000MB/s read/write that offers better thermal and power efficiency. The new WD Black SN750 is an incremental update over last year's model, keeping the same basic controller and 64L 3D NAND combination but refining the firmware further. Western Digital’s Black SN750 uses the same 64L 3D NAND and custom NVMe controller as the previous-gen model. Western Digital designed the new drive to appeal to the booming gaming market and terms the new WD Black as “Loot Box Strong.” The new SSD features military-like styling for the device, WD's new SSD dashboard, and a new model that comes with an EKBW heatsink. The WD BLACK SSD’s sleek and modern heatsink model goes well with desktop PC builds that support the M.2 form factor and is the perfect component to complement systems with RGB lighting and other cooling technologies, such as water cooling.
The product packaging and labelling has been restyled. All but the smallest model will soon be available in versions with a custom aluminum heatsink from EKWB. Additionally, there's a new version of Western Digital's new SSD Dashboard software for Windows that adds a "Gaming Mode" which re-configures the NVMe driver to not enable Autonomous Power State Transitions. When this gaming mode is enabled, the drive won't make use of its low-power idle states, which avoids the extra latency of waking the drive up after it has been idle for a few seconds. However, a few gaming desktops are configured to use the deepest idle states, and the WD Black wakes up very quickly from its intermediate idle; so this feature will be inconsequential for most users.
The WD Black SN750 comes in four capacities (250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB all single-sided) and with a 5-year warranty.
