WhatsApp has introduced a dedicated app for Apple CarPlay, bringing its messaging and calling features directly to in-car infotainment systems. The update arrives with the WhatsApp for iOS version and is now available in India and other global markets. The feature was earlier seen in beta versions and has now been rolled out widely. The new WhatsApp CarPlay app enables users to initiate and receive WhatsApp calls directly from their car’s dashboard.
It also includes separate tabs for chats and call history, allowing users to quickly access recent interactions without using their phones.
With this new feature, users can view recent conversations and call logs through the CarPlay interface. However, full chat windows cannot be opened while driving, a limitation aimed at reducing distractions. For responding to messages, the app supports voice dictation, enabling hands-free replies.
Another change is the reduced reliance on Siri. Earlier, users had to depend on Siri to read and respond to WhatsApp messages in CarPlay. With the native app, these functions are now integrated into the interface itself.
The feature is rolling out via the latest WhatsApp update on iOS through the App Store. It is currently available in India and select global regions, although access may depend on device compatibility and region. To use the feature, users need an iPhone connected to a CarPlay-supported vehicle. Once connected, the WhatsApp interface appears on the infotainment screen.
