WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature that allows users to scan documents directly through the app, eliminating the need for third-party scanning tools or additional apps. This update simplifies sharing scanned PDFs within chats or groups, streamlining the document-sharing process for users.
Currently, the feature is available exclusively for iPhone users with the latest iOS update and is being gradually rolled out. While some users have already accessed the feature, it may take a little longer to reach all iOS devices. Android availability has not yet been announced, leaving users on that platform awaiting further updates.
Using the new feature is straightforward. Within a chat or group, users can access the document-sharing menu and select the “Scan Document” option. This activates the camera, enabling users to capture images of physical documents. After scanning, WhatsApp provides a preview where users can adjust the image with suggested cropping margins. These margins can also be customized manually to ensure the scanned content is framed accurately before sending.
In addition to the document scanning tool, WhatsApp has introduced a festive update featuring a new reaction emoji. Users on both iOS and Android can now use the Party Popper emoji as a default reaction, adding a celebratory touch to messages.
Previously, WhatsApp offered six standard reactions: thumbs up, heart, crying with laughter, shocked face, sad face, and high five. The Party Popper emoji adds a dedicated option for marking special occasions like birthdays, festivals, and other celebratory moments.
These updates come as part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance the user experience with features that cater to both practical needs and fun, festive interactions. While the document scanning feature is a significant productivity boost for iOS users, Android users will have to wait for announcements regarding its release on their platform.
