Now you can know what data WhatsApp has collected from you!
With respect to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) act which got implemented in 2018, all the companies are now commited to send their users a copy of their data if and when asked for. Or at least they now have to make it easily accessible!
Facebook has the mechanism to implement the GDPR regulation, including in WhatsApp – which is one of their most popular products, and used by millions of Indians.
WhatsApp has also added an option to let user know what exactly the firm has collected from them. However, a user would not be able to retract the data immediately, but the company will send it to him within three days.
How to know what the WhatsApp has on you:
>> Open WhatsApp, got to ‘Settings’
>> Under settings, there will be ‘Account’
>> In the ‘Account’ page, you will get ‘Request account info’
>> After going to the ‘Request account info’ page – another tab showing ‘Request info’ will appear – click on that
The report will be prepared within three days
Come back after three days, to the same page, to download the report, where it will be made available
The report that will be made available will be based on your WhatsApp account information and its settings – no messages will be included in it.
If the report will have to be downloaded within the few weeks after it was requested.
Once the report is downloaded, a user can export it to other apps and read it – which might just creep you out or leave you disappointed depending on the amount of data WhatsApp has on you.
