Digital detox interventions, which involve taking breaks from digital devices like smartphones, have been proposed as a way to mitigate the negative effects of excessive screen time on mental health, well-being, and social connections. These interventions can range from short-term breaks to more structured periods of reduced or selective smartphone use.

A survey uncovers, respondents (56%) experienced negative physical and mental health consequences due to excessive smartphone use, including sleep disturbances, distractions, and feelings of compulsion.
The 18-24 age group was particularly vulnerable, with nearly 20% reporting physical discomfort from smartphone overuse. To mitigate the negative impacts, many respondents implemented strategies such as muting notifications, powering down devices, and physically distancing themselves from their phones.
With this there are increasing awareness of Digital Wellness. Digital wellness has indeed become a significant trend as people increasingly recognize the need to balance their online and offline experiences. It aims to foster a healthier relationship with technology by promoting conscious use, setting boundaries, and integrating activities that encourage well-being.
Given these concerns, this could indeed be the time for a digital detox. Even taking small steps—such as setting screen time limits, turning off non-essential notifications, or committing to a tech-free hour daily—can make a meaningful difference in your mental and physical health.
