Actor-turned-politician Rajnikanth is among the few who have come out in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). The implementation of the CAA won't affect the Muslim community and I will oppose if it does so, he said.
"Muslims have all rights; they stayed here even after the Partition. They chose India as their motherland. If there is any threat to them, Rajnikanth will be the first person to fight for them," he said.
Clarifying that the new law will not affect the citizens of the country, Rajnikanth said that it is being projected that the CAA is against the Muslims.
The actor further blamed the politicians and religious leaders for misleading students on the issue of the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). He urged the students to consult with their elders before joining any protest.
Talking about students being part of the protest, he said, "Students are being instigated by politicians and religious leaders. They are being misled. Before jumping into any protest, students should consult with their elders or professors first. One FIR can ruin their life," he added.
Asserting that the NRC has not yet been formulated, Rajnikanth said, the National Population Register is essential to identify the citizens.
"NPR is essential. It will help to identify who is the citizen and who are the outsiders," he said.
Talking about the exclusion of Sri Lankan refugees from the CAA, Rajnikanth said, they should be given dual citizenship.
