Wipro cracks a deal with ABB[/caption]
After winning a successful deal with Atco, Wipro has struck gold once. This time it has bagged a deal ofnearly half-a-billion dollar from Zurich-headquartered power and automation technologies major ABB.
The contract with ABB is said to be worth $450 million (Rs 2,750 crore) and includes IMS and application maintenance for seven years through a combination of offshore and onsite support. According to the deal, Wipro will provide IT services to ABB's facilities in Germany and Switzerland.
The deal is likely to involve around 900 employees. It will also provide network management services, and help desk support for ABB's information system infrastructure operations. The contract appears to be at least partially a shift of work from IBM that had won a contract from ABB in 2003.
Earlier in November, Wipro has partnered with Ventyx, an ABB company, to deliver industrial software and services to utility, mining, chemical, oil and gas companies, globally. In one of the first joint engagements, Ventyx and Wipro are working with Turkey's largest utility CLK Enerji to implement the Ventyx Outage Lifecycle Management (OLM) solution.
