YouTube is currently testing a new AI-powered feature designed to enhance the comment section for Shorts videos. This feature aims to automatically summarize comments into easily digestible themes, making it simpler for users to navigate large comment sections.
The new feature can help users understand and participate in conversations on YouTube and will help to organize large comment sections on English-language Shorts into easily digestible themes.
For instance, in a test with a Mr. Beast video, the AI generated topics like “People love Bryan the bird” and “More 7 day challenges,” allowing users to tap on these topics to view all related comments. This feature is being tested on a small number of videos and is only available to YouTube Premium subscribers who opt-in for the experiment.
Additionally, YouTube is also experimenting with a "timed comments" feature. This allows users to view comments that are timestamped to specific moments in the video, making it easier to see relevant discussions as they watch. This feature is currently available to a limited group of users and videos, with feedback being collected to determine its broader rollout.
These initiatives are part of YouTube's broader effort to integrate AI to enhance user experience and engagement on its platform.
