Govt Launches IndiaAI Compute Portal GPUs Available at ₹67/Hour

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) will be available for ₹67 per hour on the IndiaAI Compute Portal. Launched on the first anniversary of the IndiaAI mission, this initiative aims to democratize AI computing, making high-performance resources more accessible to startups, researchers, and enterprises.

The IndiaAI Compute Portal will provide over 18,000 GPUs along with cloud storage and AI services to a broad user base, including students, academia, and government departments. This move is expected to bridge the AI compute gap, enabling innovation across industries such as healthcare, education, and smart governance.

Alongside the compute portal, the government introduced AIKosha, a dataset platform designed to enhance AI research in India. AIKosha will facilitate secure and structured access to high-quality datasets, supporting the development of advanced AI models and applications.

High-performance computing resources are typically expensive, limiting access for smaller AI developers. With GPUs now available on an hourly rental basis, startups and researchers can utilize cutting-edge computing power without significant financial investments, fostering AI-driven breakthroughs.

IT Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that this initiative aligns with India's vision of becoming a global AI hub. By ensuring cost-effective AI infrastructure, the government aims to nurture a thriving AI ecosystem where businesses, academia, and developers can collaborate and innovate.

The IndiaAI Compute Portal is expected to partner with leading cloud service providers and tech firms to ensure scalability and reliability. Additional AI funding programs and skill development initiatives are likely to follow, further strengthening India's AI landscape.
