Apple Taps Google Gemini for Siri AI Boost
Apple and Google announced a multi-year AI partnership, with Gemini powering the next-gen Siri and Apple Foundation Models later this year.
In a joint statement to CNBC, the companies confirmed: Apple's upcoming models will leverage Google's Gemini and cloud tech. This fuels future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri.
"After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google's AI technology provides the most capable foundation," the statement notes. Apple Intelligence will still run on devices and Private Cloud Compute, upholding top privacy standards.
The move isn't shocking. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman rumored it in August 2025, later confirming Gemini as key to Siri's revival.
Apple teased AI-upgraded Siri at WWDC 2024 with Apple Intelligence—tools for image editing, organization, and smart summaries. A 2025 launch slipped; WWDC 2025 delayed it to spring 2026.
Competitors surged ahead: Google's Gemini Home upgrades and Amazon's web-based Alexa+ stole the spotlight.
iPhone users, stuck with outdated Siri (now with ChatGPT ties), stand to gain. Gemini promises smarter, multimodal capabilities.
Yet questions linger: exact launch timing, integration depth, and impacts on Apple's in-house AI ambitions.
This deal marks Apple's pragmatic pivot, blending Google's edge with iOS privacy for a competitive Siri overhaul.
