Help Me Create’ debuts on Google Docs with Gemini AI

Google has unveiled ‘Help Me Create’, an innovative AI feature designed to simplify document creation within Google Workspace. Leveraging Google’s cutting-edge Gemini AI technology, this experimental tool enables users to draft fully formatted documents quickly and efficiently, catering to both professional and personal needs.

‘Help Me Create’ integrates seamlessly with Google Drive, allowing users to pull content from existing files into their documents. By typing “@” followed by the name of a file, users can instantly incorporate relevant information. This functionality complements Google Docs’ existing ‘Help Me Write’ tool, which focuses on refining or generating content. Together, these features offer a comprehensive suite for creating materials like business proposals, itineraries, brainstorming notes, blog posts, and more.

The AI becomes even more versatile when users provide specific context, such as the document’s purpose, target audience, or key goals. This input helps tailor templates to meet unique requirements, making the tool adaptable for various use cases.

Despite its advanced capabilities, ‘Help Me Create’ has certain limitations. While it can extract content from other files, it doesn’t retain their original formatting or visual elements like inline images or cover designs. Users may need to adjust layouts manually after generating a draft. Additionally, the tool works best when prompts are written in natural, conversational language to improve AI comprehension and output relevance.

To access the feature, users can select ‘Help Me Create’ from the top of the Google Docs interface or through the “File” menu under “New.” The AI then guides users through choosing a document type and generating the content.

Currently, ‘Help Me Create’ is only available on the web version of Google Docs and is limited to participants in the Gemini for Google Workspace Alpha and Workspace Labs programs. It supports new, blank documents and is being introduced gradually as part of an experimental rollout.
