Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the data centre industry in India could attract around $200 billion in potential investments.
Goyal while speaking at a CEO roundtable in New Delhi highlighted the growing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) and said the sector presents significant investment opportunities for India.
According to the government, hyperscalers accounted for more than 80% of data centre absorption during the first half of 2026, underscoring the strong demand for large-scale digital infrastructure.
The discussions focused on addressing key challenges related to power availability, land, regulatory approvals and fiscal considerations to accelerate data centre projects across the country.
Industry stakeholders called for reliable and resilient power infrastructure, including dual power feeders and cluster-based transmission planning, to support data centre operations. They also sought easier access to renewable energy across state borders and proposed the creation of data-centre-ready land banks, with pre-identified parcels equipped with power infrastructure to facilitate faster project deployment.
