MediaTek Unveils World’s Smallest 2nm AI-Powered Chip, Deployment Begins September 2025

Designed for more than smartphones, it’s a high-volume custom ASIC built with AI at its core to enable real-time machine learning and applications like autonomous driving and instant translation. 


At Computex 2025, MediaTek has announced a groundbreaking milestone with the unveiling of its MediaTek 2nm processor, the world’s smallest AI chip designed for next-generation applications. This AI-powered chip represents a significant technological leap from current 3nm chips, promising a remarkable 15% boost in performance alongside 25% improved power efficiency. Manufactured by TSMC, this ultra-advanced mobile AI chip is set for chip deployment in September 2025, marking a new era in semiconductor innovation.

Unlike typical smartphone processors, this 2nm chip is a high-volume custom ASIC engineered with AI as its core. It is tailored for diverse applications, including real-time machine learning, autonomous driving, instant language translation, and other AI-driven use cases that demand rapid, efficient processing on edge devices.

MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai announced a “high-volume” custom ASIC chip by TSMC, offering 15% better performance and 25% improved power efficiency, designed for applications beyond traditional smartphones.

He emphasized the company’s forward-looking vision during his keynote, highlighting how this chip forms the foundation for upcoming 6G technologies and a wave of future AI-powered innovations. The tiny chip’s power efficiency and speed enable devices to handle complex AI tasks seamlessly while maintaining lower energy consumption — a critical factor for mobile devices and IoT ecosystems.

With this launch, MediaTek solidifies its position as a frontrunner in the semiconductor space, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with AI-powered mobile chips.
