Prime Minister Narendra Modi, joined by Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Jitin Prasada, inaugurated the event with a bold vision, reaffirming the government’s strong commitment to building a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem in India
The three-day SEMICON India 2025 summit concluded successfully at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, marking a pivotal moment in India's semiconductor and electronics journey. With participation from global leaders, policymakers, and over 20,000 attendees, the event underscored India's growing ambition to become a key player in the global semiconductor value chain.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event with a powerful message: “The day is not far when the smallest chip made in India will drive the biggest change in the world.” His presence, along with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada, signalled the government’s unwavering commitment to developing a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem in India.
Innovation, investment, and global collaboration at the forefront
The event opened with a grand ceremony featuring nine global CEOs and high-level dignitaries. More than 350 exhibitors from 48 countries showcased their latest technologies, drawing significant engagement from startups, industry professionals, academia, and investors.
A key highlight of the event was the presentation by five startups under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, who shared their chip design roadmaps directly with the Prime Minister. These emerging companies are part of a broader group of 23 chip design projects recently sanctioned, signalling India's growing design capabilities and commitment to innovation.
Notable features at the event included the Workforce Development Pavilion, the Startup Pavilion, and six Country Round Tables, which facilitated strategic discussions and fostered international partnerships. Over 50 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed during the event, further boosting investor confidence and cross-border collaboration.
Voices from leadership and industry
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary at MeitY and CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, highlighted the government's phased approach to deepening the electronics value chain. “We're moving beyond assembly to create a full ecosystem including chip design, fabrication, packaging, and component manufacturing,” he stated.
Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, praised the government's active involvement, noting, “Prime Minister Modi spent over seven hours across two days at the event. That level of engagement is unprecedented and reflects a true national commitment.”
Echoing this sentiment, Ashok Chandak, President of SEMI India and IESA, said, “SEMICON India 2025 has proven to be more than just an event. It has become the launchpad for India’s semiconductor future. The energy, the technology, the global engagement—it all sets the tone for what’s coming next.”
Looking ahead to 2026
Beyond the massive turnout and packed exhibition halls, SEMICON India 2025 facilitated thousands of B2B meetings, press briefings, and media interactions with global tech leaders. The organizers expressed gratitude to participants and acknowledged minor inconveniences caused by heightened security measures during VVIP visits.
Plans for SEMICON India 2026 are already underway, with promises of an even more expansive platform to support India’s evolving semiconductor ambitions. The momentum generated in 2025 is expected to carry forward as India positions itself as a global hub for semiconductor innovation, manufacturing, and talent.
