The unified WhatsApp-based platform, developed in partnership with Meta, enables residents to access multiple government services through a single interface, supporting faster, multilingual, and more inclusive digital service delivery across Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu government has rolled out ‘Namma Arasu’, a WhatsApp-based chatbot designed to simplify and centralise access to key government services for citizens across the state. Developed in collaboration with Meta, the initiative is part of the state’s broader push to strengthen digital governance and improve last-mile service delivery.
In its first phase, the chatbot provides access to 51 essential services and is available in both Tamil and English. Citizens can interact with the platform via WhatsApp by messaging +91 7845 252525, allowing them to obtain services without navigating multiple portals or visiting government offices.
Single platform for multi-department services
According to the state government, Namma Arasu integrates offerings from several departments under one digital interface. Residents can use the chatbot to download certificates, pay taxes and utility bills, and access various welfare schemes. The platform also supports transport-related services, property registration assistance, agricultural information, and ration card-related services.
Additional features include facilities for temple donations, grievance registration and tracking, and tourism-related bookings, making the chatbot a comprehensive access point for frequently used public services. Officials said the initiative is expected to reduce procedural complexity while improving convenience and turnaround time for citizens.
Partnership with Meta to enhance access
Commenting on the launch, Meta India’s Managing Director and Country Head Arun Srinivas said the collaboration aims to bring government services closer to people by leveraging widely used messaging platforms. He noted that real-time access to high-demand services such as bill payments and certificate downloads can significantly ease everyday interactions between citizens and the government.
The Tamil Nadu government said Namma Arasu will continue to expand, with more services from additional departments planned in subsequent phases. The chatbot joins a growing number of state-led WhatsApp initiatives focused on improving citizen engagement, digital inclusion, and the efficiency of public service delivery.
