Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao have decided to part ways after fifteen years of marriage. said in a join statement today (July 3rd)
"In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives - no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other," the statement said.
Khan (56) and Rao (47) first met on the sets of the actor's 2001 blockbuster movie "Lagaan" and got married in December 2005.
Describing their divorce not as an end, but as the start of a new journey, Aamir and Kiran said that they will remain devoted parents to their son Azad. They also said that they will continue working on projects together. Aamir Khan had welcomed his second son, Azad Rao Khan with wife, Kiran Rao on December 5, 2011 via surrogacy.
Aamir khan was previously married to Reena Dutta with whom he has two children Som Junaid Khan and daughter Ira Khan.
"We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does.
We will also continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani Foundation, and other projects that we feel passionate about. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other,” it read.
Khan was previously married to Reena Dutta with whom he has two children -- son Junaid Khan and daughter Ira Khan.

The actor, who is well-known for films such as '3 Idiots', 'Talaash', 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak', 'Dangal' and many more, will be next seen in 'Laal Singh Chadha', an official Hindi remake of Hollywood flick 'Forrest Gump' starring Tom Hanks.
'Laal Singh Chadha' is being produced by Rao. The two have collaborated in multiple projects including 'Dangal' and 'Secret Superstar'.
